Fresh from the sea & straight to the table (and more importantly, our bellies)! That’s what a morning at Toyosu Market was like on our 6th day in JaFun. Truly the freshest & biggest catch, as you can see in my photos/videos below. If you’re into raw food, nakapaglalaway talaga diba?
Toyosu Market opened on October 11, 2018 on the man-made island of Toyosu in the Bay of Tokyo. It took over the wholesale business from the old Tsukiji Market and provides tourists with an opportunity to observe the market action and to dine at restaurants across its large, modern premises. Tbh though, and based on my very very limited experience hehe, parang I liked the Tsukiji vibe more. Mas mukhang market. Dito kasi sa Toyosu parang structured & organized. Masyadong pormal for my taste.

The kids wanted to experience the tuna auctions which take place between around 5:30 and 6:30 in the mornings. But try as we might, we just cannot make ourselves get up that early. Even with heater in our apartment, sarap to burrow under our duvets at matulog buong araw kasi hong lomiiiiiig ng buong bahay! Buti nalang mainit yung toilet seat kasi ngisay kaming lahat pagbangon. 😛
Of the 3 buildings at the Toyosu Market, we concentrated on the Fish Intermediate Wholesale Market Building which had the restaurant area. Those that were formerly located in Tsukiji’s inner market moved to, and reopened at, Toyosu Market -including some very popular sushi restaurants. You can read more about Toyosu Market HERE in case you’re planning on going to Tokyo anytime soon.
After a delicious lunch, we went straight to Odaiba to check out teamLab Borderless . Lokang-loka si Ate at halos mamatay sa inggit whenever she’d see her friends post about this, so kahit na “art & culture” category ito, pinagbigyan na namin para manahimik ang kaluluwa ng bruha. (You need to buy tickets online & ahead of time, by the way –laging paubusan!)
teamLab Borderless is a world of three-dimensional artworks without boundaries, encased in a 10,000 square meter building. A museum without a map created by art collective teamLab. As you can see in the video, hinigaan at tinulugan lang namin ni Kap yang borderless-borderless na yan – nahilo kami sa mga umiikot na ilaw matapos magbayad ng 1.5k php entrance fee EACH, HAHAHAHAHA. True, we are such uncultured swines to Ate‘s chagrin!
We spent what remained of our afternoon just sight-seeing. Mas safe kesa shopping, yun lang mas madaming lakad syempre. So by dinnertime, we already burned off all the calories we consumed during lunch.. it was time for STEAK! <3 (PS: Pasensya na sa lantang itsura ko at super pagoda lagi ang lola nyo at the end of every waking day with these walang-kapagurang people of the Philippines).
Ikinari Steak (meaning “sudden” steak following the concept of having a steak without bothering with appetizers or vegetables), is furnished with communal standing stations instead of chairs and tables for a faster turnover. So for short, nakatayo kayong kakain. If you are willing to wait though, they have several tables with chairs for lazy foreign guests like us. ;)) Syempre naman, opt to wait kami.
Anobayaaaan.. already halfway through our Go-Kyo adventure huhu. Time flies so fast when you’re enjoying, kainez. Time to rest now at wala pa ngang isang linggo, ga-maleta na ang laki ng eyebags ko, waaaah! GN Bayan. :-*
