Sangguniang Kabataan

Life has certainly gotten more exciting in the GO household ever since the kids transferred to a new & bigger school.

My cutie zobeloids! ;))

For starters, their social lives have changed DRAMATICALLY. From no life.. to going out every single week now, or whenever the opportunity presents itself. This is especially true for my babyson.

Whereas before I would nag him to go out with his classmates during the weekends, now I have to virtually beg him to stay home coz I don’t get to see his pogi face anymore! 😛

My Lovey is still somewhat shy, but my babyson has bloomed & is really sociable now. So sociable that he has agreed to run for SK in our village when his dad urged him to.

ELECTIONS
VOTING SYSTEM Direct election
LAST ELECTION October 2010
Next election October 2013
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) (Youth Council) is a governing body in every chapter of the Katipunan ng Kabataan (Youth Federation). Each barangay in the Philippines is mandated by law to have its own chapter of the Katipunan ng Kabataan, aging from 15 to 17 years old who resides in their respective barangays for at least six months and registered in the Sangguniang Kabataan, or in the official list in the custody of the barangay secretary. It is the local youth program and projects implementation partner of the government. The Katipunan ng Kabataan members elect their officers known as Sangguniang Kabataan which serves as the local youth legislature in the village. The Sangguniang Kabataan is an off-shoot of the KB or the Kabataang Barangay (Village Youth) which was abolished when the Local Government Code of 1991 was enacted.

The Sangguniang Kabataan is the youth legislature in every local village or community. They are in the age bracket of 15 to 18 years old during the time of election. They initiate policies, programs and projects for the development of youth in their respective political territories. The Chairman/President of the Sangguniang Kabataan acts as the Chief Executive of the Sanggunian (Council) while the Kagawad (Councilor) as the legislative council. The Kagawads approve resolutions of the Sanggunian and appropriates the money allotted to the council, a share in the revenue of the Barangay.

This last weekend marked our 3rd meeting & little by little their group is starting to take shape. We are just awaiting the reply of 2 more candidates & we’re good to go for 8. They are now talking platforms & campaign strategies. I’m really excited for this new phase in his life.

Presenting Team Barkada.. one village one barkada!

From left to right.. Romaine for Chairman, 17 from UP Manila. For kagawad: Clodd from Letran, my pogi babyson & PJ, 15 & juniors in Zobel. Sabino 16 from British School Manila, and Diego 16 a senior in Zobel. All academic leaders in their own rights. I’m just mighty proud of these kids who want to serve their community & make a difference.

My babyson has always been a leader in school and I’m just so happy that he is now willing to dabble in civic duties. I like how he’s interested in helping people & reaching out to the youth in our village. He really has his dad’s spunk in him.

Kap is also running again as Kagawad. He placed 8 the last time he ran, 40 votes short to get into the Barangay Council. I’m really crossing my fingers that BOTH my senior & junior get in this time. I would love to see then work hand in hand. I just know they’ll rock it with new projects & activities for the good of our village.

Hopefully next time I report to you, I will be MRS. KAGAWAD or MOMMY SK hehehe. And no, this is as far as we go in the name of politics. 😉

Yes. It’s good to start them early in socio-civic awareness & learn how to help freely. Also to keep them away from trouble haha. 🙂
