“But I’m having so much fun in school, Mommy”, is what you always tell me whenever I raise my concern with your crazy long days & many late nights, studying. Or whenever I’d find you reviewing in between whatever breaks you could find on the run -be it on our mini dates, grocery shopping, running errands, or in between family outings. Study, study, study is all you ever do that I’m always worried it might burn you out somehow.

So hearing you say that you’re still “having fun” in spite of all the hard work, gives me comfort & peace that maybe, just maybe, we are doing the right thing & we’d get through this with very, very minimal occupational hazard lol. 😉
Even when you were little, you already had great study habits, my Nana. I never had to nag you, or to put pressure on you because you did that well on your own. You are so disciplined & you always strive to be the best version of yourself. You have always been such a perfectionist, and most of the time, too hard on yourself.
So GO, follow your dreams, be the best that you can be, and fly the highest that you could fly. But as your mother, I’m just reminding you -please, NO PRESSURE. If this path works out for you, I’ll be happy. If it doesn’t & something else comes up in the future, then I’ll also be happy as long as it makes YOU happy. Because ultimately, I wish you love & happiness more than success in your career.

I support you 100% with med school & beyond and I wish you nothing but success. It is not my intention to discourage you, but I do want to point out that life is so precious & so short. I don’t want you chasing dreams if it means you will lose yourself in the process. As you know, crazy things have been happening lately which got me so scared & paranoid. So I’m just saying (and I cannot stress this enough), I don’t care about the trimmings. I care about YOU. I can go in life without many things, but you guys I simply cannot live without.
Like I always tell you & your siblings, in life, we ALWAYS have options. We have lots & lots of that so never ever feel backed against the wall by anything or anyone. I am already so proud of you my Jangi. Whatever else you may become, by God’s grace, is just bonus.
Happy birthday my first-born. Thank you for being a great benchmark to your siblings. I love you. :-*
