Day 8 – Boston (12/28)

FINALLY got a car for the duration of our trip which made my life SO. MUCH. EASIER!! These peeps made my life hell just becos they wanted to live like a New Yorker daw the past 5 days, hay naku.

Henyway, Boston is soooo beautiful pala in spite of the all-day, non-stop rain. Clean & so peaceful pa. Plus the people here are so much nicer -a far cry from NYC hehe. Bawat kanto nalang sa New York City may mga nagsisigawan at nagmumurahan na Egs. Too bad it’s only a day trip. Gotta come back again & maybe watch a baseball game. 😉

If NY was cold, then Boston was chillier! Maybe because it was raining the whole time we were there. No kidding, as in the ENTIRE duration, naguulan, walang patawad. Good thing Kap’s BFF & kumpare, Stephen, was so thoughtful & gave us a box of these HOTHANDS hand warmers. Laking tulong, swear bear. We’d open one, shake-shake, and the tiny packs would keep our hands warm & toasty for hours! Pwede din ilagay sa loob ng sapatos. Kudos to the inventor of this amazing find. <3 Thank you bossing!

Did everything on our list in 1 short day (8 hours to be exact). Kenya imagine DA STRESS?? As in lahat minamadali namin para lang maka-move on to the next on the agenda. Although Kap gave us naman the option to stay overnight in Boston, mej nag-alanganin kami kasi we really wanted to spend another day in NYC for the last of the sights & eats we missed.

Was able to try the burgers at Wahlburgers (owned by Mark Wahlberg & family), eat noodles at Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe (rated best chinese food in Boston daw), grab some lobster sammies at Boston & Maine Fish Company, and enjoy a boston beer at the 80’s throwback sitcom Cheers Bar. Plus buy some take home cannolis from the famous Mike’s Pastry (ang daming tao ha – sign of good times daw lol).

Wahlburgers

Wahlburgers is a casual dining burger restaurant. The chain has 26 restaurants and the original location is in Hingham, Massachusetts, a town just outside the Boston area. It is owned by chef Paul Wahlberg in partnership with two of his brothers, actors Donnie and Mark. I saw a friend post about this a while back & I asked the kids to make sure they take me here when I found out we were passing thru Boston!

Wahlburgers are thick & dry, just the way I like it. I never did like the juicy kind with oil dripping down your mouth -so messy to eat, lol. This is perfect. I got a take out & ate mine in the car (look ma, no mess!) because Kap & the kids wanted Chinese food for lunch. @_@

Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe

Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe offers hand-pulled noodles & flatbread sandwiches. Tbh, I turned my nose up for a second when we got to this small, indistinct eatery (na wala pang banyo). But then, I got to taste their spicy house noodle soup ($7.47) & I fell in love! <3

Their pork flatbread ($4.50) ain’t bad either. But I’m still glad I had my Wahlburgers for appetizer, kasi naman umay na umay na talaga ako sa chinese food! Btw, the owner & chef GENE is from Xian -home of the terracotta warriors. So you’ll be sure to enjoy authentic Western Chinese cuisine here.

Boston & Maine Fish Company

Boston & Maine Fish Company is a seafood counter in Faneuil Hall Marketplace where we had a simple dinner featuring lobster sandwiches, clam chowder, a raw bar & salads. We had a variety of hot & cold lobster sandwiches, both good, but I preferred the cold version with mayo. The lobsters are not the synthetic kind, as you can see. Well worth the money spent.

Cheers

For those in my age group, you probably recognize Cheers from the 80’s sitcom. This is the Boston pub that inspired the fictional bar in the NBC sitcom. The original Cheers outlet is located at Beacon Hill. But since we lacked time & we were already at Quincy Market near Harvard, we just made do with this Replica. Still good. 😉 Cheers!

Mike’s Pastry

Mike’s Pastry is a renowned Italian bake shop providing cannoli in multiple flavors, gelati & biscotti since 1946. Michael Mercogliano (the “Mike” behind the famed Mike’s Pastry) created the one-of-a-kind cannoli that keeps loyal Bostonians and tourists coming from around the world to enjoy. Going to Mike’s has become a Boston tradition when in town. Of course we sampled those, and more!

Mike’s has a signature white box with bright blue font tied with a string bow, which you’ll see pedestrians holding as they explore Boston and take their pastries to go.

Apart from Fenway Park, we were also able to visit Acorn Street (details), Harvard University, Faneuil Hall, Quincy Street Market just across, and of course Kap’s request, Hard Rock Cafe Boston for his shirt collection.

Fenway Park

Fenway Park is a baseball park located in Boston, Massachusetts. Since 1912, it has been the home for the Boston Red Sox, the city’s American League baseball team, and since 1953, its only Major League Baseball franchise. It is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

Unfortunately, we are not baseball fans hehe. But it was nice to visit & say: Been there, done that. ;P Too bad though we didn’t get to see inside the park.

Acorn Street

Acorn Street is the most photographed street in Boston. It’s located in the Beacon Hill area, one of the best-known historic districts in the U.S., is an affluent residential neighborhood. But what makes it so special? Well, because it is one of the last places to still have actual cobblestones as paving material, and Acorn Street is one of the very few streets with its original cobs in place.

Harvard University

Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with about 6,700 undergraduate students and about 15,250 post graduate students. Some of its notable alumni are Barack Obama & Mark Zuckerberg.

Faneuil Hall & Quincy Street Market

Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a shopping center in Boston with many stores & restaurants comprising 3 historic market buildings & a promenade. Directly across is Quincy Market, another historic market complex constructed in 1824–26 and named in honor of Mayor Josiah Quincy, who organized its construction without any tax or debt. The market is a designated National Historic Landmark and Boston Landmark, significant as one of the largest market complexes built in the United States in the first half of the 19th century. By the time Boston was incorporated as a city in 1822, downtown commercial demand had grown beyond the capacity of Faneuil Hall. To provide an expansion of shop space, Quincy Market was built as an indoor pavilion of vendor stalls. When we got there, it was almost closing time for most shops so we just had a quick bite at a lobster sandwich place. Next time -somewhere in the near future, I hope we can do an in-depth tour of beautiful Boston.

Hard Rock Cafe Boston

Hard Rock Cafe is a rock ’n’ roll-themed chain with a high-energy vibe serving burgers & American classics. And although Kap is not a rakista (not even a little bit, in fact he doesn’t listen to rock music), he started collecting HRC t-shirts more than 2 decades ago during our travels so medyo napasubo na sya kaya pinanindigan na yang pangongolekta. He always buys 2. 1 for wearing, and the other he saves for what -I will never know! @_@

All in a day’s work. 4 hours drive each way, but worth it (lalo na’t hindi naman ako ang nagda-drive at tulog lang me in the car, lolz).

Philly up next! Goodnight for now, we’re all googly-gooey na hehe. Sobrang kakapagod itong byahe naming ito. AGREE?
